Posted October 11, 2018 04:25:17 Australian police have been using drones to search for a 12-year-old girl who disappeared from her school last week.
The girl was last seen on Monday, and her family has been frantically trying to track her down.
The search area was a mile and a half from her home in the north-east of the state, and is believed to be well-known to people who live nearby.
Her father, Chris, said he was “totally blown away” by the news that police were using drones.
“The police are going to be using drones at least once or twice a week for at least a month,” he said.
“I’ve got to say the first thing I thought was ‘what are they going to use to find her?'”
Police said they were using a surveillance drone to fly over the area to assist in the search.
“We have used a number of drones to conduct surveillance over the last few days and we’ve been looking for the girl since Monday,” Detective Superintendent Mark Buggs said.
Police said a search operation would continue until Saturday morning.
